The United States should upgrade security at public places to help prevent future mass shootings. We should make sure there is a police officer of some type at every location. They should make it illegal to carry a fully automatic weapon of any kind unless you are not prohibited to and it is part of your job like an FBI Agent, Military task force, etc. We need meaningful action to keep our schools safe, action that addresses what we know about gun violence in America’s schools. It’s time for our leaders to adopt an approach that provides the school community with the tools it needs to prevent school-based gun violence. We can’t let risky ideas, like arming teachers, dominate the debate. Put simply, an armed teacher cannot, in a moment of extreme confusion, transform into a specially trained law enforcement officer. In reality, an armed teacher is much more likely to hit a student or be shot by law enforcement than to be an effective solution to an active shooter in a school. In the article, “Keeping Our Schools Safe: A Plan to Stop Mass Shootings and End Gun Violence in America” it states, “Everytown’s database of gunfire on school grounds details the ways in which gun violence manifests in American schools.” Following the mass shooting at Sandy Hook School in 2012, Everytown began tracking all cases of gunfire on school grounds. The aim of this project was to build a detailed national database that included all scenarios involving gunfire on school grounds. From 2013 to 2018, Everytown identified 405 incidents of gunfire on school grounds. Of these, 260 occurred on the grounds of an elementary, middle, or high school, resulting in 109 deaths and 219 injuries. While Everytown’s database includes higher-education institutions, for the purposes of this report all numbers and analyses reflect only those incidents that occurred on the grounds of elementary, middle, or high schools.
What we mean by meaningful actions are precautions that the United States should take so that U.S. citizens shouldn’t have to be afraid that they could get shot in a place they love like going to church, you should be able to walk in and praise God without worrying a crazy psychopath could walk in with an mp5 and spray his magazine into the crowd of people worshipping in their beliefs. But, on the other hand, people should be able to carry guns as well so that they can feel more safe because we all know what type of world this is becoming so we need weapons or guns to protect ourselves but there should be precautions like being tested for certain things before being able to hold a gun. Holding a gun is a big responsiblity, with one pull of the trigger can come many consequences that you will not be ready for, so before you pull the trigger or even think about taking your gun out of your house realize how many lives you could affect and take precautions into your own hands. Gun Violence has become a big problem in America and it needs to stop, when people come to America from all over the world its for a brand new start. They didn’t come to America to be afraid of being killed in their church or going grocery shopping, they want a new life. So if they can change their life around we can change the stereotype of gun violence and use guns for good. Guns are something people shouldn’t have to be afraid of but people have become afraid due to what this world has become with all the mass shootings going on in the United States. We need to help support the people that are helping fight gun violence and put a stop to it before it is too late for our next generation of teenagers and younger kids going through elementary and middle school.
